In Spring 2024, Aptos Soccer Club and Santa Cruz County Breakers permanently combined their respective competitive programs to form Santa Cruz United FC, the county's flagship competitive soccer program.
Why This New Club Matters
A larger player pool at each age group means better team placement by skill level and stronger competition in league play.
All players—regardless of experience—can develop in a more supportive and structured environment.
Clearer pathways for advancement from recreational to top-tier competitive soccer, with opportunities extending through the end of high school.
Flexible options for competitive play, tailored to each player’s level of commitment.
A unified effort to strengthen and elevate soccer across the Santa Cruz community.
How It Works
Players can choose from two competitive programs:
Ten-month annual programs for those seeking year-round soccer.
Shorter programs (Fall and Spring seasons) for a more flexible seasonal commitment.
This two-tier system offers more choice in terms of time, cost, competitive level, and travel.
With multiple teams per age group, players can guest play or move between levels as their skills or interests evolve. The combined programs create a clear development path—from rec soccer to elite competition, including NorCal's National Premier League—while ensuring a place for every player.
For Volunteer Coaches
Volunteer coaches from Aptos Soccer Club are encouraged to continue into the competitive ranks. Over time, the new club will provide:
Coaching education and session plans
Structured curriculum
Support from professional coaching staff
This will promote consistency in player development and open new learning opportunities for coaches themselves.
We’re excited about what the combined competitive program means for players, families, coaches, and the broader Santa Cruz soccer community. Learn more at scunited.org.
